Sources and methodology

This page explains the sources and methodology used to produce the constituency-level birth estimates shown on this website.

Birth data

Birth counts are based on 2024 live births from the Nomis / Office for National Statistics small-area births dataset.

Births were downloaded for 2021 Lower Layer Super Output Areas, known as LSOAs.

Constituency mapping

LSOA-level births were matched to Westminster Parliamentary Constituencies using the ONS Geography LSOA 2021 to Westminster Parliamentary Constituency July 2024 Best Fit Lookup.

Births were then summed by Westminster Parliamentary Constituency to produce constituency-level estimates.

Estimated 25% figure

The estimated 25% column is based on an assumed prevalence rate and is not an observed count of diagnosed cases.

Figures should therefore be treated as estimates, not official diagnosed case totals.
